Privacy Policy

No account, no login, no server holding your reflections. Here is exactly what stays on your phone and the one thing that doesn't.

Last updated: 2 August 2026

1. Data that never leaves your device

Nopamine stores the following exclusively on-device, inside Apple's App Group container:

  • Your reflections — “Why I Scroll” answers, triggers, places
  • Your companion — name, species, appearance, history
  • Apps you guard, stored as opaque system tokens only
  • Activity history — resisted urges, calm windows, schedule

The app requires no account, login, server or cloud sync. You can export or delete all of it at any time.

2. Screen Time (Family Controls)

Nopamine uses Apple's Screen Time technologies: Family Controls, Managed Settings and Device Activity. All processing happens on-device. Apple does not share app identities with Nopamine.

3. Anonymous product analytics

The only information the app ever sends off your device is anonymous product-usage events, sent to an analytics provider.

You are not identified

  • No accounts, logins, emails or profiles
  • A random identifier is used only to estimate daily and weekly active users, and retention
  • That identifier cannot be used to identify an individual

What may be sent

  • App opened, app version, OS version
  • Onboarding steps, Screen Time permission status
  • Companion species; counts of guarded apps, categories and websites
  • Number of calm windows, Calm Mode status
  • Urge outcomes — let it pass, gave in, quiet window completed
  • Tab views — Today, Insight, The Year, Calm
  • Analytics status
  • Future purchase data, product identifier only

What is never sent

  • The contents of your reflections, triggers or places
  • App tokens, names or identities
  • Your companion's name, or any free-form text
  • No session recording, screen replay or tap recording

International data transfers

Analytics uses U.S. servers, covered by Data Processing Agreements, Standard Contractual Clauses, or EU–US Data Privacy Framework safeguards.

Your choices

  • EEA, UK and Switzerland: analytics is disabled by default. Enable it via Calm → Privacy.
  • Other regions: analytics is enabled by default. Disable it via Calm → Privacy.

4. Crash and performance diagnostics

Nopamine uses Apple's MetricKit to collect crash and performance information locally. This is not uploaded. Apple may provide aggregated crash reports through App Store Connect if you have iOS Analytics enabled.

5. Legal basis (EEA, UK, Switzerland)

  • Analytics: consent, withdrawable at any time
  • Core functionality: performance of the service

6. Data retention

On-device information persists until you delete it in the app or uninstall Nopamine. The analytics provider retains anonymous events according to its standard retention policy.

7. Your rights

Because there are no accounts, you cannot be individually identified. Your on-device data can be viewed, exported or deleted at any time within the app, or removed entirely by uninstalling.

8. Children

Nopamine is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from minors.

Updates will carry a new “last updated” date, with in-app notification where legally required.
